The proper dental care can actually help prevent many health problems that come with senior pets. Poor dental health can cause damage to the vital organs(liver, kidney and heart).

  • Daily brushing
  • oral hygiene rinse and chews
  • Drinking water additives
  • Oral health diet

Your pet's diet is also very important. You should keep your pet on a good quality pet food. For a routine maintenance diet, our hospital recommends that you feed Purina Pro Plan. Weight control is crucial, so you will want to feed your pet according to the recommendations on the bag. Overweight pets can more quickly develop joint problems as well as other health issues. If you have a concern about your pet's weight you should consult one of our doctors. Your pet should never be fed human food.Table scraps can cause problems for your pet other than obesity. These foods can cause general stomach upsets and more seriously pancreatitis.

For heartworm and flea prevention, our hospital recommends the monthly use of Sentinel in conjunction with Comfortis. If you need a tick prevention, we recommed the monthly use of Vectra 3D. Annual heartworm tests are necessary due to the fact that no prevention is 100% effective, and the early detection of these types of disease is essintial to successful treatment.
